The convergence of environmental, political, economic and social crises urges us to find ways to democratically approach a sustainable future. Scientific insights from the #DemocratizingWork network highlight the need to democratize work as a key step toward this goal.
Our contribution: the Democracy in Organization Index (DOI) – a tool designed to measure democracy within organizations.

Evaluate
the democratic state of organizations, regardless of their legal structure, sector of activity or geographical location
Complete
current measures (including ESG criteria) ignoring the dimension of democracy in organizations

AD CONSEIL is a consulting firm with a democratic governance and has been working to improve working conditions and equality at work since 2007.
Its strong roots in research and its support for the open science movement led it to initiate this project. As a social enterprise, AD Conseil aims to enrich the public debate on the challenges of democratizing organizations.
IRISSO: Institute for Interdisciplinary Research in Social Sciences
IRISSO is a joint research unit with teaching and research staff from University Paris Dauphine-PSL, CNRS and INRAE.
Developed by some one hundred political scientists, sociologists and economists, IRISSO’s work focuses on the sociology of economic worlds, the analysis of public action and the study of politicization. This work is based on qualitative and quantitative empirical surveys, and pays particular attention to the analysis of inequalities and relations of domination.
TED: Research unit "Work, Firm, Democracy"
The research unit “Work, Firm, Democracy” (TED) is a laboratory coordinating and leading a program of sociological research on work and firms (understood as political entities), in close dialogue with the field of law. TED is a collective space where ongoing research is developed, carried out and discussed, with a focus on the dissemination of its results.
TED is a research unit of the Center for Interdisciplinary Research on Democracy, Institutions and Subjectivities (CriDIS) at UCLouvain.
institutional framework
The project is being carried out as part of a doctoral thesis in sociology at IRISSO, University of Paris Dauphine-PSL. This research is the subject of a CIFRE agreement between AD CONSEIL and the National Association of Research and Technology (ANRT) and adheres to the open science movement.

The project is supported by the DOI Support Committee, a deliberative body tasked with supporting the project, ensuring it is rooted in the reality of organizations, and guaranteeing its contribution to public debate. It is made up of organizations and experts in organizational democracy.
